The Evolution of Piano Lessons

Students struggle with many issues in traditional music lesson structure:

  • Having a whole week between lessons

  • Knowing how to practice without a teacher

  • Not enjoying the repertoire

  • Ebb and Flow of Motivation

  • Feeling Isolated/Lack of Community

  • Limited opportunity to learn composition or improvisation

  • Infrequent performance opportunities

  • Slow Progress

  • Boredom/Lack of variety

  • Performance Anxiety

  • Exams for Royal Conservatory

Longer or more frequent lessons might seem like the best solution but only so much can be accomplished with the teacher.  It is unlikely that all the struggles of a student could be addressed even with DAILY lessons.

Why is this program a GAME CHANGER?!

Over her 30+ years of teaching, Leith Bell observed a number of gaps and challenges in piano instruction.  Some of these issues were brought about by the limitations of the clock.  We did our best with the time we had and that just had to be enough.  Other problems arose because the student didn’t know how to practice effectively and as a result, made little progress resulting in frustration and anxiety.

Instead of creating this new program based on a specific curriculum or a prescribed weekly time, we reverse engineered this program by making a list of every conceivable challenge and then created a solution.  We knew that group lessons alone were not the answer, but neither were one-on-one lessons.

Many platforms are used in this hybrid program which ensures the growth of the student beyond what could be expected from traditional lessons.
